There is more matter than antimatter in the universe. This asymmetry requires three conditions: 1- Baryon (or lepton) number violation, 2- C and CP violation and 3- out-of-thermal equilibrium conditions in the early universe, before BBN. Although the SM does not have any out-of-equilibrium process, it does provide baryon number violation and CP violation. Still, it is commonly accepted that the SM CP violation is not enough for producing the observed baryon asymmetry. I will present one new physics model in which the SM CP violation, that is measured in the B meson system, is in fact enough to generate the baryon asymmetry. 

The 21-cm line from neutral hydrogen holds immense potential as a probe of early astrophysics and cosmic evolution. Realizing the potential of this observational probe, however, is limited by our ability to control systematic effects in the data and model the cosmological 21-cm signal. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the observational prospects made possible through the cosmic 21-cm signal and discuss the challenges confronting interferometric experiments that are targeting a high-redshift detection. I will focus on recent developments from the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA), covering our latest upper limits on the 21-cm power spectrum and their implications for early X-ray heating of the intergalactic medium. I will additionally discuss our latest efforts to understand and mitigate mutual coupling, a complex systematic effect in the data that threatens to thwart our efforts to detect the cosmological 21-cm signal. I will conclude by discussing the path forward with HERA, with a preliminary view of what to expect from forthcoming analyses.

According to general relativity, the remnant of a binary black hole merger is a perturbed Kerr black hole. Perturbed Kerr black holes emit "ringdown" radiation which is well described by a superposition of damped exponentials ("quasinormal modes”), with frequencies and damping times that depend only on the mass and spin of the remnant. The observation of gravitational radiation emitted by black hole mergers might finally provide direct evidence of black holes, just like the 21 cm line identifies interstellar hydrogen. I will review the current status of this "black hole spectroscopy" program. I will focus on: (1) the role of nonlinearities in ringdown modeling, (2) the current observational status of black hole spectroscopy, and (3) future prospects for the observability of modified gravity effects and nonlinear modes.

The correspondence of AGT sets up, in part, a connection between six-dimensional superconformal theories and 2d CFT. We will give a mathematical construction of 2d CFT from 6d SCFT which involves recent progress in our understanding of the holomorphic twist 6d superconformal symmetry. We then turn to the question of enhancement of familiar structures in 2d CFT to 6d including the well-known Segal—Sugawara construction. Finally, I will set up a Dolbeault enhancement of the AGT correspondence which is expected to probe coherent cohomology of the moduli space of instantons.

In this talk I will give updates on two projects: Firstly, Perimeter and Two Small Fish Ventures are currently supporting a group of five PSI alumni in writing a play themed around quantum science & technology, with the goal of enriching public discourse on these fields. On the one hand, we aim to inform the audience about key quantum concepts in an entertaining setting. On the other hand, we are exploring questions such as "Will we really have fault-tolerant quantum computers in five years? Which quantum research is better pursued in industry vs. academia? Who will benefit from commercialization? What drives scientists to do quantum research - for scientific understanding, or because 'today's theoretical physics is tomorrow's technology'?". Five characters debate different takes on these questions in a Douglas-Adams-inspired sci-fi setting.

Secondly, I will review recent developments in classical and quantum reservoir computing.

The remnant of a binary black hole coalescence is a perturbed black hole, which equilibrates by emitting ringdown gravitational waves. These ringdown waves not only encode information in their frequencies about the spacetime structure of the remnant black hole metric, but also have imprints in their amplitudes of the progenitor black hole binary's properties. In this talk I will highlight recent results in black hole ringdown data analysis and new understanding of astrophysical ringdown amplitudes gleaned from numerical relativity simulations, and will then discuss how ringdown analyses may become a vital tool for making inferences of binary black hole properties - even in situations where the gravitational wave signal from the binary inspiral itself is never directly observed.

The Virasoro conformal blocks are very interesting since they have many connections to other areas of math and physics. For example, when $c=1$, they are related to tau functions of integrable systems of Painlev\'{e} equations. They are also closely related to non-perturbative completions in the topological string theories. I will first explain what Virasoro conformal blocks are. Then I will describe a new way to construct Virasoro blocks at $c=1$ on $C$ by using the "abelian" Heisenberg conformal blocks on a branched double cover of C. The main new idea in our work is to use a spectral network and I will show the advantages of this construction. This nonabelianization construction enables us to compute the harder-to-get Virasoro blocks using the simpler abelian objects. It is closely related to the idea of nonabelianization of the flat connections in the work of Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke and Neitzke-Hollands. This is based on a joint work with Andrew Neitzke.

Gravitational forces from the largest structures in the Universe leave a detectable imprint on galaxies and their local environment. I will present a new approach to tracing the tidal field using these correlations: the intrinsic alignment of small groups of galaxies, or "multipelts". Multiplets mostly consist of 2-4 galaxies within 1 Mpc/h of each other, and we measure their orientations relative to the galaxy-traced tidal field. Using spectroscopic redshfits from the DESI Y1 survey, we detect intrinsic alignment out to projected separations of 100 Mpc/h and beyond redshift 1. We find a simillar signal regardless of galaxy luminosity or color, which could make multiplet alignment a useful tool for mapping the direction of the tidal field and any cosmological effects which impact it. Our detection demonstrates that galaxy clustering in the non-linear regime of structure formation preserves an interpretable memory of the large-scale tidal field. 

Area metrics define generalized geometric backgrounds to describe spacetime. They are suggested at various places in classical field theory and arise within different approaches to quantum gravity. On these grounds, after introducing the notion of an area metric, I will consider covariant area-metric actions to second order in fluctuations and derivatives. I will then show how these give rise to effective length-metric actions with a distinct nonlocal Weyl-curvature squared term beyond general relativity. Finally, I will point out possible implications and routes for phenomenology.

Covariant loop quantum gravity, commonly referred to as the spinfoam model, provides a regularization for the path integral formalism of quantum gravity. A 4-dimensional Lorentzian spinfoam model with a non-zero cosmological constant has been developed based on quantum SL(2,C) Chern-Simons theory on a graph-complement three-manifold, combined with loop quantum gravity techniques. In this talk, I will give an overview of this spinfoam model and highlight its inviting properties, namely (1) that it yields finite spinfoam amplitude for any spinfoam graph, (2) that it is consistent with general relativity with a non-zero cosmological constant at its classical regime and (3) that there exists a concrete, feasible and computable framework to calculate physical quantities and quantum corrections through stationary phase analysis. I will also discuss recent advancements in this spinfoam model and explore its potential applications.

In this talk I will discuss the potential of future high-resolution CMB observations to probe structure on sub-galactic scales. In particular, I will discuss how a CMB-HD experiment can measure lensing over the range 0.005 h/Mpc < k < 55 h/Mpc, spanning four orders of magnitude, with a total lensing signal-to-noise ratio from the temperature, polarization, and lensing power spectra greater than 1900. These lensing measurements would allow CMB-HD to distinguish between cold dark matter (CDM) and non-CDM models that can resolve apparent small-scale tensions with CDM. In addition, CMB-HD can distinguish between baryonic feedback effects and non-CDM models due to the different way each impacts the lensing signal. The kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich power spectrum measured by CMB-HD further constrains non-CDM models that deviate from CDM. In sum, future CMB experiments will not only measure traditional cosmological parameters with unprecedented precision, but will also simultaneously constrain baryonic physics and dark matter properties that impact sub-galactic scales.
