We will begin by reviewing the work of Kazhdan and Lusztig, who established an equivalence between certain affine Lie algebra representations and quantum group representations. It can be thought of as a logarithmic version of the CS-WZW correspondence. In a joint work with Lin Chen, we used factorization algebras to establish an extended version of this equivalence. We will explain the main structure of the proof, and draw some connections with Kazhdan and Lusztig's original proof. The key idea is that of Kac-Moody localization, a parametrized version of factorization homology. Time permitting, we will also explain how this idea plays a role in the recently announced proof (by Gaitsgory et al.) of the de Rham geometric Langlands conjecture.

Obtaining a description of cosmology is a central open problem in holography. Studying simple models can help us gain insight on the generic properties of holographic cosmologies. In this talk I will describe the construction of entangled microstates of a pair of holographic CFTs whose dual semiclassical description includes big bang-big crunch AdS cosmologies in spaces without boundaries. The cosmology is supported by inhomogeneous heavy matter and it partially purifies the bulk entanglement of two auxiliary AdS spacetimes. In generic settings, the cosmology is an entanglement island contained in the entanglement wedge of one of the two CFTs. I will then describe the properties of the non-isometric bulk-to-boundary encoding map and comment on an explicit, state-dependent boundary representation of operators acting on the cosmology. Finally, if time allows, I will argue for a non-isometric to approximately-isometric transition of the encoding of "simple" cosmological states as a function of the bulk entanglement, with tensor network toy models of the setup as a guide.

If dark energy evolves in time its dynamical component could be dominated by a bath of dark radiation. Since dark energy was subdominant in the early universe, the dark energy radiation evades the usual stringent constraints on extra relativistic species from the cosmic microwave background, allowing for an O(1) fraction of the energy density today to be dark radiation. In this talk, I will discuss how dark energy radiation can emerge from a fundamental theory, its predictions for cosmological observables, as well as discovery potential and constraints with existing and future precision cosmological datasets including measurements of the cosmic microwave background, baryon acoustic oscillations, and supernova data. I’ll conclude with the prospects of measuring the particle content of the dark energy radiation in direct-detection experiments in the presence of interactions between the Standard Model and the dark radiation sector, focusing on neutrinos, axions and dark photons.

In this talk, we identify anomalies of 1+1d lattice Hamiltonian systems as ’t Hooft anomalies. We consider anomalies in internal symmetries as well as Lieb-Schultz-Mattis (LSM) type anomalies involving lattice translations. Using topological defects, we derive a simple formula for the ‘anomaly cocycle’ and show it is the obstruction to gauging even on the lattice. We reach this by introducing a systematic procedure to gauge arbitrary internal symmetries on the lattice that may not act on-site. As a by-product of our gauging procedure, we construct non-invertible lattice translation symmetries from LSM anomalies.

I will present work on probing the large scale structure of the universe using CMB lensing from the upcoming Data Release 6 of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) and cross-correlations with galaxies from the unWISE galaxy catalog. My talk will focus on how our highly competitive constraints from CMB lensing and CMB lensing cross-correlations can provide insight into the widely discussed “S8/sigma8 tension”. For this purpose I will briefly introduce the high fidelity CMB lensing reconstruction obtained by the ACT Collaboration and results from the analysis of the lensing auto-correlation. I will discuss new results from the cross-correlation between ACT CMB lensing and unWISE galaxies, highlighting improvements to the analysis pipeline compared to previous work on the cross-correlation between Planck CMB lensing and unWISE by some of my collaborators (Krolewski et al. 2021). I will also show a reanalysis of Planck CMB lensing x unWISE and a joined analysis of the ACT and Planck CMB lensing cross-correlations with unWISE.

Numerical simulations of collision events within the ATLAS experiment have played a pivotal role in shaping the design of future experiments and analyzing ongoing ones. However, the quest for accuracy in describing Large Hadron Collider (LHC) collisions comes at an imposing computational cost, with projections estimating the need for millions of CPU-years annually during the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) run. Simulating a single LHC event with Geant4 currently devours around 1000 CPU seconds, with calorimeter simulations imposing substantial computational demands. To address this challenge, we propose a Quantum-Assisted deep generative model. Our model marries a variational autoencoder (VAE) on the exterior with a Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM) in the latent space, delivering enhanced expressiveness compared to conventional VAEs. The RBM nodes and connections are meticulously engineered to enable the use of qubits and couplers on D-Wave's Pegasus Quantum Annealer. We also provide preliminary insights into the requisite infrastructure for large-scale deployment.

Higgs coupling deviations from Standard Model predictions contain information about two scales of Nature: that of new physics responsible for the deviation, and the scale where new bosons must appear. The two can coincide, but they do not have to. The scale of new bosons can be calculated by going beyond an effective field theory description of the coupling deviation. I will discuss model-independent upper bounds on the scale of new bosons for deviations in Higgs to WW and ZZ couplings, and explain how any measured deviation at present or future colliders requires the existence of new bosons within experimental reach. This has potentially interesting implications for naturalness.

Cosmic-ray-driven instabilities play a crucial role in particle acceleration at shocks and during the propagation of GeV cosmic rays in galaxies and galaxy clusters within the self-confinement picture of CR transport. These instabilities amplify magnetic fields, which, in turn, scatter cosmic rays and thus self-regulate their transport. This leads to a strong coupling between the collisionless cosmic ray population and the thermal background plasma, implying potentially significant dynamic feedback. In this presentation, I discuss a recent discovery of a new cosmic ray-driven instability, referred to as the intermediate-scale instability, which triggers comoving ion-cyclotron electromagnetic waves at sub-ion skin-depth scales. Its growth rate is notably faster compared to the ion gyro scale (streaming) instability, which is commonly assumed to be the dominant instability in the self-confinement picture. Therefore, this new instability could play a vital role in the transport of cosmic rays in galactic and stellar environments. I then explore the implications of this instability for electron acceleration at non-relativistic shocks. Through Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, it is demonstrated that the new instability triggers the dominant mechanism for efficient electron acceleration at parallel electron-ion shocks, addressing a persistent issue with electron injection at these shocks. The PIC simulations also reveal that the common practice of using reduced ion-to-electron mass ratios in shock simulations, which artificially suppresses the intermediate instability, not only hinders electron acceleration but also leads to incorrect electron and ion heating in downstream and shock transition areas.

Out of the many lessons quantum mechanics seems to teach us, one is that it seems there are things we cannot experimentally have access to. There is, indeed, a fundamental limit to our ability to experimentally explore the world. In this work we accept this lesson as a fact and we build a general theory based on this principle. We start by assuming the existence of statements whose truth value is not experimentally accessible. That is, there is no way, not even in theory, to directly test if these statements are true or false. We further develop a theory in which experimentally accessible statements are a union of a fixed minimum number of inaccessible statements. For example, the value of truth of the statements a and b is not accessible, but the value of truth of the statement “a or b" is accessible. We do not directly assume probability theory, we exclusively define experimentally accessible and inaccessible statements and build on these notions using the rules of classical logic. We find that an interesting structure emerges. Developing this theory, we relax the logical structure, naturally obtaining a derivation of a constrained quasi-probabilistic theory rich in structure that we name theory of inaccessible information. Surprisingly, the simplest model of theory of inaccessible information is the qubit in quantum mechanics. For a simple Lie algebra \mathfrak{g}, Kazhdan-Lusztig correspondence states that for certain values of the level k, there is an equivalence between two braided tensor categories: the category of modules of the affine Lie algebra of \mathfrak{g} at level k and the category of modules of the quantum group of \mathfrak{g} at q=e^{\pi i/k}. I will report on recent work to appear with T. Creutzig and T. Dimofte proving such a statement for a class of Lie superalgebras. These Lie superalgebras and their affine VOAs arise from the study of boundary conditions in 3d \mathcal{N}=4 abelian gauge theories. I will also explain how the corresponding supergroups act on the category of matrix factorizations.

Classical simulation techniques are widely used in quantum computation and condensed matter physics. In this talk I will describe algorithms for classically simulating measurement of an n-qubit quantum state in the standard basis, that is, sampling a bit string from the probability distribution determined by the Born rule. Our algorithms reduce the sampling task (known as weak simulation) to computing poly(n) amplitudes of n-qubit states (strong simulation). Two classes of quantum states are considered: output states of polynomial-size quantum circuits and ground states of local Hamiltonians with an inverse polynomial energy gap. We show that our algorithm can significantly accelerate quantum circuit simulations based on tensor network contraction and low-rank stabilizer decompositions. To sample ground state probability distributions we employ the fixed-node Hamiltonian construction, previously used in Quantum Monte Carlo simulations to address the fermionic sign problem. We implement the proposed sampling algorithm numerically and use it to sample from the ground state of Haldane-Shastry Hamiltonian with up to 56 qubits.
