A permanent non-zero electric dipole moment of the free neutron (nEDM) violates CP-symmetry. The search for an nEDM contributes to understanding the Baryon asymmetry,
as well as it has a high discovery potential for Beyond Standard Model physics. The tool of choice to investigate the nEDM are ultracold neutrons (UCN), since they have such low energies that they can be stored in traps and allow observation times of hundreds of seconds.
The distinct feature of TRIUMFs UCN facility is the combination of a neutron spallation source with a superfluid helium UCN converter - unique among all existing and planned UCN sources worldwide. The goal of the UCN project at TRIUMF is to provide a density of several hundreds of UCN per cubic cm to experiments at up to two ports, whereas one will be dedicated to determine the nEDM to the 10-27 e·cm level of precision.
This presentation shall update the audience on the current status of the new UCN facility at TRIUMF. Additionally, a brief status update on the work of the CREMA collaboration (Charge Radius Experiments with Muonic Atoms) shall be given. Recent experiments performing laser spectroscopy on light muonic atoms shed new light on the Proton Radius Puzzle.

The first phase of stellar evolution in the history of the Universe may be Dark Stars (DS), powered by dark matter heating rather than by nuclear fusion. Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, which may be their own antipartners, collect inside the first stars and annihilate to produce a heat source that can power the stars. A new stellar phase results, a Dark Star, powered by dark matter annihilation as long as there is dark matter fuel, with lifetimes from millions to billions of years. Dark stars are very bright diffuse puffy objects during the DS phase, and grow to be very massive. In fact, we have found they can to grow to 10^5-10^7 solar masses with luminosities 10^9-10^11 solar luminosities. Such objects will be observable with James Webb Space Telescope (the sequel to HST). Once the dark matter fuel is exhausted, the DS becomes a heavy main sequence star; these stars eventually collapse to form massive black holes that may provide seeds for supermassive black holes observed at early times as well as in galaxies today.

I will present some results on three-dimensional gauge theory from the point of view of extended topological field theory. In this setting a theory is specified by describing its collection of boundary conditions - in our case, a collection of categories (standing in for 2d TFTs) with a prescribed symmetry group G. We will apply ideas from Seiberg-Witten geometry to construct a new commutative algebra of symmetries for categorical representations (or line operators in the gauge theory) -  a categorification of Kostant's description of the center of the enveloping algebra. I will talk about the relation between non-local theories and gravity. The main thesis is that non-local field theories naturally induce gravity, even at the classical level. Supporting this idea, I will study bi-local scalar field theories, which involve minimal deviations from locality. We will treat them both, bi-local theories and gravity perturbatively. We will see that bi-local theories encode gravity together with higher spin fields.

We classify quantum states proximate to the semiclassical Neel state of the spin S=1/2 square lattice antiferromagnet with two-spin near-neighbor and four-spin ring exchange interactions. Motivated by a number of recent experiments on the cuprates and the iridates, we examine states with Z_2 topological order, an order which is not present in the semiclassical limit. Some of the states break one or more of reflection, time-reversal, and lattice rotation symmetries, and can account for the observations. We discuss implications for the pseudogap phase.

An overview will be given of recently discovered connection between asymptotic symmetries in general relativity  and soft theorems in quantum field theory together with their implications for the black hole information paradox.

We study the boundary conditions in the topologically twisted Chern-Simons matter theories with the Lie 3-algebraic structure. We find that the supersymmetric boundary conditions and the gauge invariant boundary conditions can be unified as the complexified gauge invariant boundary conditions which lead to the supergroup WZW models. We examine the BPS indices of the supergroup WZW models which may describe certain junctions of M2-branes and M5-branes by identifying the vacuum configurations of the brane system with the weight diagrams of the associated Lie superalgebras. For the case arising from the BLG model an explicit expression can be given in terms of a mock modular form. We will also consider the alternative matrix quantum mechanical descriptions of the supergroup WZW models. The talk will be based on recent works arXiv:1512.06646, arXiv:1612.07565 and ongoing research.

Fast Radio Bursts are mysterious radio flashes that appear to have extragalactic origin. The inferred isotropic brightness temperature for these events can exceed 10^34 K. Discovered in 2006, only about 25 have been reported to date. I will give a short summary of the these events then explain how a new generation of dense radio arrays will dramatically improve our understanding of these burst. The HIRAX telescope in South Africa will detect about 10 FRBs per day and will localize these events with sub-arcsecond precision. A next generation of packed array could detect one every minute, allowing tomography of the ionized universe.

The notion of singular support for coherent sheaves was introduced by Arinkin and Gaitsgory in order to carefully state the geometric Langlands conjecture.  This is a conjectural equivalence of categories of sheaves on certain moduli spaces: in order to make the conjecture reasonable one needs to restrict to sheaves which satisfy a certain "singular support condition".  In this talk I'll explain how to think about this singular support condition from the point of view of boundary conditions in twisted N=4 gauge theory.  Specifically, Arinkin and Gaitsgory's singular support condition arises by considering only those boundary conditions which are compatible with a natural choice of vacuum state.  By allowing this vacuum state to move away from this natural choice we see aspects of a rich additional structure for the geometric Langlands correspondence.  This work is joint with Philsang Yoo.

Any quantum field theory can be thought of as arising from a perturbed UV conformal field theory, suggesting that information about the full RG flow is encoded in the original CFT. I will discuss ongoing work developing new methods for extracting this information to study strongly-coupled IR dynamics. This method uses a UV basis of conformal Casimir eigenstates to construct the Hamiltonian, which is then truncated at some maximum Casimir eigenvalue and diagonalized to approximate the low energy spectrum of the IR theory. After presenting a general framework which can be applied to CFTs in any number of dimensions, I will then focus on the specific example of scalar field theory, which can be used to study strongly-coupled systems like the 2D and 3D Ising models. Finally, I will discuss the possible application of this framework to gauge theories, including QCD.

I will discuss the role(s) of the Immirzi parameter in Loop Quantum Gravity, insisting on the Poisson algebra formed by Thiemann's complexifier, the volume and the Hamiltonian constraint. In particular, we will see how loop quantum cosmology is a direct quantization of this CVH Poisson algebra and how cosmological evolution amounts to a flow in the Immirzi parameter.
