Abstract
Several astronomical and cosmological observations are inconsistent with the theory of general relativity, should all the matter of the Universe be in the form of the known particles. A plausible explanation for these observations is to postulate the existence of a population of new massive particles providing the necessary additional gravitational force to explain the observations: these are the dark matter particles. In this talk we review some of the most compelling evidences for dark matter, and some possible strategies to establish the particle nature of the dark matter.
