We show that in the presence of a chemical potential, black hole evaporation generates baryon number. If the inflaton or Ricci scalar is derivatively coupled to the B-L current, the expansion of the universe acts as a chemical potential and splits the energy levels of particles and their anti-particles. The asymmetric Hawking radiation of primordial black holes can thus be used to generate a B-L asymmetry. If dark matter is produced by the same mechanism, the coincidence between the mass density of visible and dark matter can be naturally explained.

We provide a framework for describing gravity duals of four-dimensional N=1 superconformal field theories obtained by compactifying a stack of M5-branes on a Riemann surface. The gravity solutions are completely specified by two scalar potentials whose pole structures on the Riemann surface correspond to the spectrum of punctures that labels different theories. We discuss how to identify these puncture in gravity.

We study a class of 4d N=1 SCFTs obtained from partial compactifications of 6d N=(2, 0) theory on a Riemann surface with punctures. We identify theories corresponding to curves with general type of punctures through nilpotent Higgsing and Seiberg dualities. The `quiver tails' of N=1 class S theories turn out to differ significantly from N=2 counterpart and have interesting properties. Various dual descriptions for such a theory can be found by using colored pair-of-pants decompositions. Especially, we find N=1 analog of Argyres-Seiberg duality for the SQCD with various gauge groups. We compute anomaly coefficients and superconformal indices to verify our proposal.

After the 7 and 8 TeV LHC runs, we have no conclusive evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model, leading us to suspect that even if new physics is discovered during run II, the number of signal events may be limited, making it crucial to optimize measurements for the case of low statistics. I will argue that phase space correlations between subsequent on-shell decays in a cascade contain additional information compared to commonly used kinematic variables, and this can be used to significantly improve the precision and accuracy of mass measurements. The improvement is connected to the properties of the volume element of many-body phase space, and is particularly relevant to the case of low signal statistics.

In the coming years, LHC experiments will measure Higgs properties, such as its couplings, with increasing precision. Electron-positron Higgs factories, such as the ILC or TLEP, would be able to achieve even better precision. In this talk, I will discuss some of the physics questions that can be addressed by a precision Higgs coupling measurement program. First, the issue of naturalness of the electroweak scale can be addressed in a robust, model-independent manner. Second, the possibility of a first-order electroweak phase transition can be definitively probed, testing one of the necessary conditions of electroweak baryogenesis scenario.

There is a proposed dS/CFT duality in 3+1 dimensions, with higher-spin gravity in the bulk subject to Bunch-Davies boundary conditions. I consider replacing these with antipodally symmetric conditions, which allow for real values of the bulk fields. I present spanning sets of solutions in global dS_4 for free gauge fields of all spins (including photons and gravitons), and use them to establish relations between antipodal symmetry and asymptotic behavior. Some of these relations can be extended to interacting theories, including ordinary and higher-spin gravity. I discuss the implications for antipodally symmetric dS/CFT.

The IceCube detector has recently reported the observation of 28 events at previously unexplored energies. While the statistics of the observed events are still low, these events hint at the existence of a neutrino flux over and above the atmospheric neutrino background. We investigate the possibility that a significant component of the additional neutrino flux originates due to the decay of a very heavy dark matter (VHDM) particle via several possible channels into standard model particles. We show that a combination of a power law astrophysical neutrino spectrum and the neutrino flux from the decay of a DM species of mass in the range 150-400 TeV improves the fit to the observed neutrino events than that obtained from a best-fit astrophysical flux alone. Assuming the existence of an astrophysical background described by the IC best-fit, we also show that, for the decay of even heavier DM particles ($m_{\text{DM}} \sim 1$ PeV), the same observations impose significant constraints on the decay lifetimes. Allowing the astrophysical flux normalization to vary leads to modifications of these limits; however, there is still a range of dark matter mass and lifetime that is excluded by the IC results.

We consider M-theory in the presence of M parallel M5-branes probing a transverse A_{N-1} singularity. This leads to a superconformal theory with (1,0) supersymmetry in six dimensions. We compute the supersymmetric partition function of this theory on a two-torus, with arbitrary supersymmetry preserving twists, using the topological vertex formalism. Alternatively, we show that this can also be obtained by computing the elliptic genus of an orbifold of recently studied M-strings. The resulting 2d theory is a (4,0) supersymmetric quiver gauge theory whose Higgs branch corresponds to strings propagating on the moduli space of SU(N)^(M-1) instantons on R^4 where the right-moving fermions are coupled to a particular bundle.

We present explicit computations and conjectures for 2 → 2 scattering matrices in large N U(N) Chern-Simons theories coupled to fundamental bosonic or fermionic matter to all orders in the ’t Hooft coupling expansion. The bosonic and fermionic S-matrices map to each other under the recently conjectured Bose-Fermi duality after a level-rank transposition. The S-matrices presented in this paper may be regarded as relativistic generalization of Aharonov-Bohm scattering. They have unusual structural features: they include a non analytic piece localized on forward scattering, and obey modified crossing symmetry rules. We conjecture that these unusual features are properties of S-matrices in all Chern-Simons matter theories. The S-matrix in one of the exchange channels in our paper has an anyonic character; the parameter map of the conjectured Bose-Fermi duality may be derived by equating the anyonic phase in the bosonic and fermionic theories.

The CDF and D0 experiments at Tevatron measure a top-quark forward-backward
asymmetry significantly larger than the standard-model prediction.
We construct a model that involves new strong interactions at the electroweak scale
and can explain the measured asymmetry. Our model possesses a flavor symmetry
which allows to evade flavor and collider constraints, while it still permits flavor-violating
couplings of order 1 which are needed to generate the asymmetry via light t-channel vectors.

There is a close connection between Symmetry Protected Topological Phases and anomalies: a surface of an SPT phase typically has a global symmetry with a nonvanishing 't Hooft anomaly which is canceled by the anomaly inflow from the bulk. This observation together with the known results about the classification of SPT phases suggest that anomalies are much more ubiquitous than thought previously and do not require chiral fermions We elucidate the physical mechanism of anomalies and give examples of bosonic theories with 't Hooft anomalies in various dimensions.
