We will review the basics of the bosonic string following the first eight video lectures on the topic by Freddy Cachazo, which can be found in 11/12 PSI - String Theory (Review) | PIRSA.
We will aim at covering the definitions of the Nambu Goto and Polyakov actions, lightcone quantization, the string spectrum, and basic calculations of string scattering from 2d CFT correlators. The miniseries will last for four weeks and will consist of two video sessions per week, followed by a Q&A about the videos of the week lead by Adrian Lopez.
Take graduate courses at one of the world's pre-eminent centres for theoretical physics research. Perimeter Institute offers PSI courses with the University of Waterloo, as well as graduate credit courses to students enrolled at regional universities, non-credit mini-courses on current topics, and free online learning modules for independent study.
Most lectures are recorded and available to watch for free on PIRSA.
For information about each type of course including enrollment requirements, please visit: https://perimeterinstitute.ca/graduate-courses
Perimeter's extensive program of scientific seminars are organized by research area series, many of which include weekly talks, as well as a weekly colloquium program. Each subcategory below contains the events for that series.
Seminar Chairs work with the Program Manager, Conferences and Scientific Events to schedule seminars and colloquium talks.
Mini-courses are offered on-site at Perimeter; they are not cross-listed with a university so there is no transcript credit for completing a mini-course.
These graduate credit courses are open to students enrolled at regional universities. Formal enrollment in each course is required - open each course below for more details.
