Thermodynamics at the level of nanoscales had remained confounding till a definite and intuitive prescription was put forward in the late 90’s. Quantum mechanical as well as classical mesoscopic thermal machines, which can be driven far from equilibrium, constitute an area that relies heavily on the definitions of fluctuating thermodynamic quantities that have been developed in the realm of Stochastic Thermodynamics. The summer school is intended for women students studying in first year B.A/B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent degree and having Mathematics as one of the major subjects/courses, during the academic year 2021-2022. Over a period of two weeks, the school shall aim at helping young students gain broader exposure to problem solving skills in mathematics and statistics at the undergraduate level.Specific topics that will be covered are:Advanced CalculusLinear AlgebraProbability StatisticsThere will be problem solving sessions across topics.Each topic will have a brief introductory lecture session on a focus area followed by problem solving sessions on it. The participants are expected to work together to solve the problem sheets that will be given out in these sessions. Each day will also feature two popular science lectures by distinguished researchers. The topics will range from across all sciences and the lecture will be made accessible to all the participants. Other daily events will inc...

Machine learning is increasingly seen as a method with which to attempt difficult problems in a range of fundamental science areas. Over a period of a decade, dramatic developments in ML architectures and the availability of fast computing has allowed us to overcome many of the limitations associated with standard scientific methodologies. Additionally, some of the most significant contributions have been made by research divisions in commercial enterprises. This has led TIFR as whole to seek to build an industry-academia consortium to take on significant disciplinary challenges using ML techniques in collaboration with industry partners. This day-long discussion meeting brings together interested faculty from all TIFR centres and ML scientists in industry to develop a scientific collaboration plan.Participation in this discussion meeting is by invitation only.

The Astrophysical Relativity group at ICTS-TIFR in Bengaluru will organize a Study Hub of the Gravitational Wave Open Data Workshop 2022 (https://gwosc.org/odw/odw2022) at the ICTS campus.The Study Hub will run on May 25th and May 26th. The workshop is only open to individuals residing in the Bangalore area, and ICTS is unable to provide accommodation to participants. Preference will be given to students.Registrations are closed.
