Abstract
NA60+/DiCE is a new experiment designed to study the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter at high baryochemical potential, in the range of 200 to 550 MeV, at the CERN SPS. It will focus on precision studies of thermal dimuons, heavy-flavor production, and strangeness production in Pb–Pb collisions at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =$ 6 to 17 GeV.
The proposed apparatus comprises a vertex telescope positioned close to the target, followed by a muon spectrometer located downstream of a hadron absorber. The vertex telescope will consist of multiple planes of ultra-thin, large-area Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors embedded in the magnetic field of the MEP48 dipole magnet. The muon spectrometer will employ large-area gaseous detectors for muon tracking and the MNP33 dipole magnet.
After the submission of the technical proposal in 2025, the goal is to start data-taking in 2031.
This talk will focus on the experimental apparatus, including technical aspects and the status of R&D efforts. A brief overview of the physics program will be also provided with its competitiveness with respect to other experiments.
